Elite Advisory Services found that cloud-enabled financial operations, connected workflows and platform consolidation can unlock significant capacity while improving productivity and accelerating the value of automation and AI investments.

News Summary:

  • Elite Advisory Services identified an average of approximately 1,648 hours and $329,600 in identified annual opportunity per firms still relying on on-prem financial systems.
  • The lost capacity was not isolated to one process. It appeared across billing, time capture, reporting, payments, accounts payable, trust accounting, master data, workflow configuration and user adoption.
  • Many of the opportunities showed how moving fragmented processes into connected cloud workflows can reduce manual handoffs, increase automation and accelerate productivity and financial value over time.
  • The findings give law firm CFOs a practical path to release capacity now by consolidating fragmented processes on a connected cloud platform that can scale automation, intelligence and financial value over time.

NEW YORK, N.Y., Oct 27, 2026 — Elite, the AI financial operations platform for law firms, today announced an analysis of operational assessments conducted by Elite Advisory Services that identified, on average, each firm had approximately 1,648 hours and $329,600 in untapped annual capacity embedded in recurring financial workflows.

The analysis shows that meaningful capacity is being lost not through a single major failure, but through routine friction repeated across fragmented financial operations: manual handoffs, inconsistent processes, disconnected systems and limited end-to-end visibility. As law firm CFOs face simultaneous pressure to automate more, apply AI responsibly, reduce cost and improve financial performance, moving to connected cloud workflows can remove that friction, increase capacity and accelerate the value of technology investments.

The opportunities appeared across the full matter-to-money lifecycle. Recommendations included modernizing proforma and billing workflows, improving time-capture controls, connecting e-billing and payment processes, strengthening collections, automating accounts payable and trust workflows, and expanding the use of cloud reporting and analytics. Because these activities are operationally linked, improvements in one area can reinforce gains in others and create a more connected financial operation.

“Law firm CFOs are being asked to fund innovation, lower the cost to serve and improve financial performance at the same time,” said Martin Linusson, Chief Customer Officer, Elite. “The opportunity is not simply to automate a broken process. It is to understand where work, data and decisions break down across the matter-to-money lifecycle, then redesign those operations around a connected financial platform. That combination of industry expertise, operational discipline and technology is how firms create capacity for growth and build a stronger foundation for AI.”

Elite’s analysis found recurring patterns across the assessed firms:

Billing and proforma workarounds. Manual adjustments, inconsistent statuses, duplicate steps and limited workflow automation slowed billing and reduced visibility into work-to-cash performance.

Fragmented workflows and disconnected tools. Firms often managed critical financial processes across multiple systems and manual workarounds, limiting visibility, increasing effort and making automation harder to scale.

Reporting and spreadsheet dependency. Custom reports, disconnected tracking and inconsistent use of reporting tools created avoidable effort and limited real-time visibility.

Time capture and data quality. Missing-time processes, duplicate checks, inconsistent defaults and manual narratives introduced rework and weakened downstream data.

Payments, accounts payable and trust processes. Manual payment runs, voucher handling, reconciliation and trust workflows created repeated administrative burden and control risk.

Cloud adoption and workflow modernization. Consolidating processes on connected cloud workflows can reduce operational complexity, improve adoption and create a stronger foundation for automation, reporting and AI.

The findings point to a practical sequence for transformation: baseline the work before automating it; move fragmented processes into connected cloud workflows; consolidate point solutions around a common platform and trusted data foundation; measure changes against financial and operational outcomes; and scale automation and AI across the matter-to-money lifecycle.

The findings point to a practical sequence for transformation: baseline the work before automating it; move fragmented processes into connected cloud workflows; consolidate point solutions around a common platform and trusted data foundation; connect billing, e-billing, payments, reporting and approvals across the matter-to-money lifecycle; measure changes against financial and operational outcomes; and scale automation and AI from that foundation.

This approach replaces disconnected point solutions and manual handoffs with connected workflows that can compound time and productivity gains as firms scale. A billing improvement can strengthen e-billing compliance; better time and master data can improve reporting and automation; connected payment and collections workflows can accelerate work-to-cash performance.

It also gives CFOs a clearer connection between cloud and technology investment and the outcomes they are accountable for, including capacity, cycle time, realization, working capital, risk and user adoption.

“The fastest path to value is often hidden in the way work gets done every day,” said Linusson. “Our role is to combine deep knowledge of law firm finance with operational and technology expertise, identify where capacity is being lost, and give firms a practical plan to improve performance now while preparing for larger automation and AI initiatives.”

About the analysis

Elite reviewed five completed Advisory Services assessments containing firm-specific quick wins and annual time-savings estimates. Across the five populated assessments, identified annual savings totaled more than 8,240 hours. Dollar estimates apply the illustrative $200 loaded labor rate used in the source assessments, producing approximately $1.65 million in annual opportunity, or approximately $329,600 per firm. These figures represent identified opportunities, not audited or guaranteed realized savings. Individual results will vary by firm size, operating model, technology environment and adoption.
