Funds Raised at Flagship Regional Customer Event Will Support Médecins Sans Frontières

Sep. 23, 2019

Thomson Reuters Elite, part of the Legal Professionals division of Thomson Reuters, will be expanding its long tradition of charity fundraising and will be highlighting Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) at this year’s VANTAGE Asia Pacific Regional Conference, taking place in Sydney on September 24 and 25.

Médecins Sans Frontières is an international humanitarian organization that delivers impartial medical aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, natural disasters, and exclusion from health care in more than 72 countries. The funds raised are eligible to be matched dollar-for-dollar by Thomson Reuters.

In 2018, MSF made more than 11 million outpatient consultations, vaccinated nearly 1.5 million people against measles in response to an outbreak, and assisted in more than 309,000 childbirths. In many of the world’s most challenging locations when it comes to access to health care, their impact also included admitting more than 74,000 severely malnourished children to inpatient feeding programs, performing more than 104,000 major surgical interventions, and providing in excess of 404,000 mental health consultations.

Médecins Sans Frontières was also the focus of fundraising efforts at this year’s global VANTAGE event in San Diego this past June. Over the course of that event, more than $40,000 was generously donated, including contributions by attendees and the dollar-for-dollar match by Thomson Reuters.

“It is tremendously gratifying to support the work of Médecins Sans Frontières, which is dedicated to providing essential health services around the globe to those who need it most,” said Patrick Hurley, vice president of Customer Advocacy at Thomson Reuters Elite. “Thomson Reuters Elite is proud to have a long tradition of supporting worthwhile causes which reflect our values and are chosen by our employees. Bringing this ethos to our VANTAGE APAC event for the first time is a natural next step, and we’re humbled to support the brave, selfless, and life-saving work of MSF.”

“On behalf of Médecins Sans Frontières, and most importantly on behalf of the patients that we treat, I am deeply grateful for this expression of support by Thomson Reuters Elite,” said Paul McPhun, executive director of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia and New Zealand. “For nearly 50 years, Médecins Sans Frontières has been a movement based on the strength of shared humanitarian responsibility, and I thank the staff of Thomson Reuters Elite and the attendees of the VANTAGE Asia Pacific Regional Conference for sharing our commitment to global medical aid, provided without regard for race, religion, creed or political conviction.”
