Law Marketing Leaders Earn Accolades At the 2006 Thomson Elite Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3, 2006 – Thomson Elite, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and a worldwide provider of business software to professional services firms, recently presented the 2006 Thomson Elite Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards. A special ceremony was held Friday, Jan. 20, at the 2006 Legalworks Marketing Partner Forum, the legal industry's leading conference on client development, in Key Biscayne, Fla.

The Thomson Elite Excellence in Legal Marketing Awards recognize excellence and innovation in three categories: Marketing Partner, Marketing Director and Marketing Initiative. To honor leaders in the field, the awards are granted based on demonstrable marketing results, innovation and sophistication; demonstration of excellence; and ability to show leadership and take decisive action.

After a thorough nomination and evaluation process, a panel of judges comprising previous winners and legal marketing professionals selected this year's winners.

  • Marketing Partner of the Year: Greg W. Curry, Thompson & Knight LLP, Dallas, Texas

  • Marketing Director of the Year: Elizabeth G. Chambers, Bingham McCutchen LLP, New York, N.Y.

  • Marketing Initiative of the Year: Susan Reagan, Aden Dauchess and James Green, Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice PLLC, Winston-Salem, N.C.
Greg W. Curry, a partner in Thompson & Knight's trial practice group, has led the firm's marketing initiatives as firm marketing partner and chair of the marketing committee since 2003. Curry launched a new brand image and Web site, along with an aggressive advertising campaign, winning "Most Innovative Visual Identity Using a Logo" from Marketing the Law Firm newsletter.

Elizabeth G. Chambers is the chief marketing and strategy officer at Bingham McCutchen LLP (www.bingham.com). She is responsible for the firm's growth strategy, practice management activities, marketing and business development investments and key knowledge and talent-building initiatives. Recently, Bingham was ranked the number one marketing and communications team in the legal profession by Marketing The Law Firm.

Womble Carlyle's internal sales contest, "Stop the Clock," resulted in more than 300 client visits and 200 sales calls with prospective clients. The project enhanced the firm's strong sales culture and has yielded 30 new engagements to date.

"Sponsoring these awards for the fourth year running illustrates our support of leadership and creativity in law firm marketing," said Chris Poole, president and CEO, Thomson Elite. "We will continue to do our best to provide the tools that legal marketing professionals need to succeed in today's competitive environment."
