Tips and Tricks

The following are tips and tricks to help when using Thomson Reuters Elite software products.

3E Accounts Payable and General Ledger

As an alternative to creating a manual General Journal Entry when a voucher is coded to the incorrect GL account, consider going into the actual voucher within the Voucher Maintenance Process. From there, update the cost information by negating out the original card and creating a new line to place the cost to the correct GL account. This can be done for vouchers that already have checks applied and for those still waiting to be paid.

In this example, Line 1 is the original voucher detail. We added Line 2 to negate the original detail, and Line 3 to place the amount in the correct GL account.

Enter Time, Review Documents, and Add Calendared Dockets from Anywhere

With ProLaw XII R3, ProLaw Mobile is available in the App Store for iPad. This new feature allows the user the ability to enter time, review documents and add calendared dockets from anywhere.

Troubleshooting an Invoice at the Database Level

If you're troubleshooting an invoice at the database level, use the invhead and invdet tables to identify the ledger records associated with the invoice. Then use the ledgertc table to link to the corresponding timecards and cost records.

Document Studio

Start Converter Automatically

Need Converter to start automatically after a reboot? Simply put a shortcut in the Startup folder and add "/start" to the command line. It will automatically start converter as soon as the user is logged in.

Document Preview

If you're developing templates in Document Studio and doing a Document Preview, you can hit Ctrl+F4 in Microsoft Word to close the preview document but keep Word open.

Contact Manager, Proposal Generator and Experience Manager

Finding Missing Information within a Database

The "Is Blank" option within Search Builder can be very helpful for finding missing information within your database.

Example: In Contact Manager, you can find all contacts on a list without a sponsorship to that list.

From Search Builder within Contacts, choose the Lists field and specify the list that you want to search.

Then, expand the List option and choose Sponsored to the List by and then choose Is Blank. Your results will show you anyone on the chosen list who does not have a sponsorship to that list.

You can also do this in Proposal Generator (perhaps look for proposals without a status) and Experience Manager (maybe find records without any related lawyers or professionals). And, remember to save your search if this information will be needed again.

Save Incoming Emails to MatterSphere

When an email is received/read that relates to a client/matter you can save it to MatterSphere. This means that you can store all email correspondence regarding a matter centrally so that other users working on the same matter can quickly access that information.

Save from the Email

  1. This is the simplest way to save an email. Open the email message and select the Save or Save As icons on the email ribbon. Save allows you to save to a matter. If you select Save As, you can save it to another matter if required.
  2. This opens the MatterSphere Document Save Wizard. Complete this as normal, selecting the client/matter to save the email against.

Save when closing an Email

  1. If an email is open and has not previously been saved to a matter, when closing the email, a prompt displays asking if you want to save before closing.
  2. Selecting Yes opens the MatterSphere Document Save Wizard. Complete this as normal, selecting the client/matter to save the email against.
  3. The same message displays when Replying, Forwarding, and Deleting Emails.
