Capehart Scatchard LLC Improves Firm Efficiency and Customer Service with ProLaw®Capehart Scatchard LLC implemented ProLaw in 2005. In the past three years, ProLaw has helped the firm automate their practice, decrease attorney/staff ratios and improve customer service. Mark Wiltshire, Director of Information Technology and Lora V. Northen, Attorney, Workers' Compensation Co-chair, spoke to Exchange about ProLaw. E: When you were deciding to buy ProLaw, what made it stand out from the competition?MW: We were looking for a more robust solution than our prior case management system. One of our key concerns was customization. ProLaw was the only product that offered our firm the ability to quickly add custom tabs and forms. Additionally, we needed ProLaw's enhanced reporting functionality in order to create and customize reports with up-to-date firm information. E: What kinds of business benefits have you experienced with ProLaw?LN: Through attrition, we have been able to reduce our non-billable support staff from eight to four in three years. When people leave, we can figure out ways for ProLaw to absorb some of the work. Remaining support staff can also cover more attorneys than before, thanks to ProLaw's automated front office features. E: Which specific ProLaw features have helped you provide superior customer service to your clients?LN: Built-in form creation is crucial to our practice. After a hearing, ProLaw helps us deliver status updates to our clients on what happened in court. It allows us to create reports that meet our client's various reporting requirements and time frames. We have created several different hearing status (HRR) forms, each one tailored to specific types of clients. When we bring up this form in ProLaw, relevant client and matter information is populated automatically, including my signature line. I can type a summary into the body field, and with one click the HRR form is emailed to the client. Prolaw has helped us to meet our client's various time limitations on reporting requirements in a number of ways. E: Which ProLaw features have helped your firm become more efficient?LN: In the Workers' Compensation department, attorneys now use the computer directly to create their documents. Other than for very long letters, we have eliminated the concept of dictation. Work is completed more quickly and efficiently, with less chance for error because information is entered once and populated in all relevant areas. E: What are your future plans for ProLaw?MW: We are planning an upgrade to version 11 in the next few months.
